My Color Drawers

Today I am going to talk a little about organizing my embellishments. Have you ever lost some of you embellishments? You know you bought that certain item but have no idea where you put it. You spend hours looking only to be disappointed and not find it. Then a month down the road it turns up in the spot you left it so you would not forget about it. That was me! Scrapbooking took so much time just looking for just the right brad or flower. So I was on the search for a better system. Then I came across the color drawers that Stacy Julien from Simple Scrapbooks used.
I just knew I had to do it.
So, I went to Target and bought these drawer cabinets. They are made by Sterilite. They are a great size as they will hold 12 x 12 paper too!

I have each one labelled with my colors...one for red, one for pink, one for blue and so on. Then I sorted my colors of embellishments into these drawers. So now, if I am working on a page for my granddaughter and need pink embellishments and flowers I go to my pink drawer and everything is in there. I have saved myself so much time by having color drawers. It is the best system ever! I have had this in place for over a year now and have not regretted it once ever.
If you have any questions about this, please let me know. I would be happy to explain it further to you.

Oh, those Toes!

My daughter and I took footprints and hand prints of my granddaughter. Oh, were they so small. I knew I had to scrapbook them. My daughter looked all over the Internet and finally found some non toxic baby nail polish in Fargo North Dakota and had a few colors shipped here. so, when Novalee was sleeping one afternoon she painted her little toe nails. How adorable is that! Anyways, here is the layout I made of this occasion. Hope you enjoy it.

Christmas Gift Bag

This is a project that my club made on Wednesday night. These are so much fun to make. I taught the club how to make these pretty bows that you can use for any occasion, like Christmas, birthdays, showers etc. We also decorated the gift bag to co-ordinate everything!

My Club meets once a month and we make little projects like this, with no cost to you other than a commitment to purchase at least $25 dollars from the Close To My Heart Catalogue. Once during the duration of the club, you will get to receive hostess rewards, usually at least $75. For more details contact me and I will give more details.

Acrylic Scrapbook

This is an Acrylic Scrapbook I made of my Granddaughter Novalee. Sometimes these can be challenging as you have to plan your pages so you can see through to the pages further back. There wouldn't be much point in using acrylic if you completely covered the album. I did paint the edges of the pages with White Daisy paint mixed with Blush Reinker to match the papers I was using (I love so much that I can do that!)I also used rub ons on the "spine" on the last page so that you can see them right through to the front.

Happy Halloween and the Time Change

Happy Halloween everyone!

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween. Please remember to watch out for the little ones darting across the street on your travels tomorrow. I made a cute little treat box to add to my Halloween decorations this year.
With Halloween this year, also brings the time change. So remember to set you clocks back one hour Saturday night. And with the time change you should also get in the habit of changing your batteries in your smoke detectors. It is so important for these to be working properly. There seems to be so many house fires just before Christmas. It is so sad. So PLEASE make this a priority every time you change your clocks.
One more thing...With the bi-annual time change you should also get in the habit of backing up your computer...or more importantly your photos. With the digital age I hear so many customers and family say that they have pictures on their computer from last Christmas that they have not developed yet....or a friend just said to me not long ago that her holiday photos were still on her camera from last year! I have also heard horror stories of computers crashing and losing all their photos.
I do spend a lot of time with my photos as I find they are so important. A few years ago I spent the whole winter scanning in all the photos I had (before my first digital camera) so I could have copies. I also am in the habit of backing up my photos onto an external hard drive, plus I copy them all to CD's and have them stored outside my home in case of fire. I do know this takes a lot of time, but to start just back your photo files up on a CD and put them in another location. Once you get in the habit it will only take a few minutes to do. I know you won't be sorry.

Childhood Portrait

Good Morning! Today, this card has one of my favorite stamp sets this catalogue on it...Childhood Portraits. You can see the entire stamp set here. It also uses the Sweet Home paper packet that you can see here.

I cut out some hearts from the stamp set and attached the smaller hearts to the bigger heart by sewing on some embroidery floss. Then I attached them to the card with Foam dots to pop them up. I also went around the piece that I stamped the kids on with the finger daubers using Buttercup ink.

All supplies are Close To My Heart unless otherwise noted:

Colors are Buttercup, Garnet, Heavenly Blue and Indian Corn Blue.

Holiday Warmth

Holiday Warmth...October Stamp Of The Month.
The possibilities are endless with this set. You can get all your Christmas cards and layouts done not to mention birthdays and just general winter things. And the best part is that you can get this set at a discount or even FREE!!!! Ask me for details!

I used some of my punches for this card. Sometimes that is way easier than cutting! I used a Martha Stewart Snowflake border punch and a Martha Stewart Large Snowflake punch. The rest of the supplies are Close To My Heart.
This one I used a Martha Stewart Ribbon Punch to thread my ribbon through then tied the bigger bow and attached it. Simple but elegant.

And on this card i used my Swiss dots cuttlebug folder, and my Nestibilities regular oval and scalloped oval.
These are three of the six cards I will be teaching at the Christmas card Workshop on November 1st. Please let me know soon if you are interested as space is limited and will fill up fast.
Well that is all for today and I hope I gave you some inspiration to start your Christmas cards soon.

Novalee's Baby Album

This is the front cover of my Granddaughter, Novalee's Baby album. This is a Close to My Heart's 12x12 Linen Album. I really love these albums. They are soft and very well made and will last a lifetime. I also love the new Snapease System that our albums are coming with now. You no longer have to turn out the back screws to add more page protectors, you just lift off the snapease strip and add the pages. What a time saving feature. I do put on an album cover to keep sticky fingerprints off the fabric and to keep dust off it too, (yes, I do have a dust problem.... I don't know how it accumulates so fast...LOL). Anyways, All supplies are Close To My Heart.

Baby Shower Guest Book

Here is the Guest Book I made for my Granddaughter, Novalee's, Baby Shower.
It matches the diaper cake and the baby book that I also made using the Key to My Heart Paper Packet. Novalee's Room is done in a POOH Theme so that is why the Pooh and quote are in the book. Each of the inside pages has a different photo of Novalee making some pretty faces. Sorry, she is just so cute, I cannot help but say that her faces are so darn cute!
Thanks for looking and make sure to leave comments, I love hearing from you.
Laurie

Baby Shower Diaper Cake

My Granddaughter, Novalee's Baby Shower is on Sunday. I made this Diaper Cake for part of the decorations. It is made out of the Key to My Heart Paper Packet. I had also made my daughter a Baby Book made out of the same paper that I gave to her back in February to track all the progress of pregnancy and birth. I also made the guest book for the Baby shower out of the same paper that I will post in another post later this afternoon.
I did not have any instructions to make this, but i did remember seeing one somewhere in my blogging travels so I had an idea of what one should look like. I did use two different sizes of diapers that I individually rolled up and tied. Then i made a paper chain for the band around the diapers and added lace, flowers and some string pearls. I hope you like it.
